About the Bible Translation Used Here
The Bible text included in the daily readings is provided so readers can follow the commentary without interruption or needing to choose between editions. It is a working English translation that is accurate in substance and consistent with major modern translations. It is suitable for reading, reference, and becoming familiar with what the biblical text actually says.
You are not required to use it. If you already have a Bible translation you trust or prefer, you are welcome to read along using that instead.
For readers who want a translation that is immediately understandable and easy to follow over long stretches, we recommend the NLT. Its contemporary English and sentence structure reduce the effort required to track complex passages, which can be especially helpful for readers with any kind of focusing difficulty, whether ongoing or temporary, as well as for multilingual readers or anyone experiencing language-processing fatigue at the end of a full day. Translations such as the NRSV or ESV are also careful and widely respected, and many readers value them for close study, but they can require more sustained concentration when read continuously. The NIV often sits somewhat between these approaches. For daily reading, especially for those new to the Bible, many people find the NLT easiest to remain with from beginning to end.
Why the text here may sound a little different: most English Bible translations were shaped by long-standing religious language and conventions. This project is working toward a rendering of the Bible in more fully natural modern English, without relying on inherited Bible-specific phrasing or adding conclusions that are not present in the original text. That work is ongoing and deliberately unrushed. The text you see now reflects that direction, but it is not presented as final.
